Orlando Museum of Art

Overview

Since 1924, the Orlando Museum of Art has been enriching Central Florida culture, offering award-winning art collections, art education programs, notable lectures, and outreach services. The Museum’s website suffered from poor information architecture, outdated design, and an arduous content management system. In collaboration with Push and Renda Morton, Purple, Rock, Scissors was tasked with the redesign of the Museum’s website.

The Challenge

In order to drive visitation, the Museum required a strong focus on event listings. The user interface had to become more intuitive, while making careful consideration for the display of dynamic content and content overflow. Additionally, a custom content management system was prescribed to capacitate the display of the Museum’s niche offerings.

The Solution

Clean interaction design. Impeccable typography. Custom solution. For the Museum’s diverse constituency, the user experience focused on making information findable. The home page features an innovative calendar system, ensuring that fresh content is displayed daily. Behind the scenes, Purple, Rock, Scissors developed a custom content management system atop of the Zend Framework, mirroring the front-end user experience.

The Result

The website successfully positioned users’ focus on upcoming Events, promoting a brick and mortar brand engagement. From Events to News to Collections, the content management system capacitated the Museum’s ability to successfully maintain the real-time relevancy of its website, increasing value to users and search engines alike. Moreover, the intuitiveness of the interface optimized the findability of information, funneling users towards desired content. The scalability of the solution ensures the website will be iteratively enhanced to meet shifting usage patterns and the Museum’s strategic goals.
