Many businesses today run on highly targeted, proprietary mobile applications. Beyond a successful app, many application based brands rely on lead generation through immersive and interactive marketing websites.

Ensuring your Marketing Website is not only “findable,” but also visually compelling can be one of the biggest factors for the successful adoption of your app.

Pinpointing our Parameters

Wonolo, or “Work. Now. Locally.”, is a startup work placement platform connecting workers (Wonoloers) to companies that need flexible staffing through their mobile app. In 2019, Wonolo realized their current WordPress site’s look and feel wasn't lining up with the core message of their brand. Both visuals and user interactions lacked the impact Wonolo needed to drive new platform adoption. Beyond design, their core messaging was foggy across their two distinct audiences: Wonoloers and Requesters.

Our goal was to effectively distinguish Wonolo’s brand message to both Requesters and Wonoloers through updated visual design and optimized content structure. While both our design and strategy teams were needed to make this happen, our focus was on defining an intuitive, interactive user experience, with polished design at its core.

Refining Wonolo's Look and Feel

Even though Wonolo had a narrow set of brand guidelines, our designers began with a big step back, taking in a wider view of Wonolo’s personality as a whole. From there, we outlined three distinct brand personalities. These were refined and narrowed until both our teams agreed the result was a perfect fit. The new look and feel for Wonolo is centered around a bold, minimal, and people-centric style.

Breaking Down the Design Details

Hero Images

Wonolo seeks to not only help people find work but to truly feel fulfilled in the workplace. To help communicate this mission across the website, we created animated hero sections featuring real Wonoloers. We felt this simple touch of human expression amplified the people-centric focus of Wonolo’s mission.

Stepper Components

To help answer users’ questions about how Wonolo functions takes some explaining. In order to convey these steps clearly and effectively, we implemented interactive “stepper” components across the site to walk both Wonoloers and Requesters through the process. We made sure to keep these components focused and minimal in order to help get users directly to the answers they need.

Case Studies

By showcasing case studies of businesses currently using Wonolo, we were able to convey to potential users the authentic core of Wonolo’s mission: to give both workers and businesses the flexibility they need to be successful in the workplace.

Spot Illustrations

To round out sections of the site that felt content-heavy, we created a set of unique icons for many of Wonolo’s more unique values. These icons needed to be both minimal, and convey a highly targeted message with just a glance. Bold, simple line work helped us stick to the brand.

Key Takeaways

After several weeks of collaboration between our designers and the Wonolo team, we launched the updated website in February 2020. We were able to meet our goal of creating an intuitive, compelling, and thematically consistent experience, while also elevating the look and feel of Wonolo’s brand.

Today, Wonolo continues to successfully operate in over thirty cities across the US, matching Wonoloers to Requesters in as little as twelve hours through their streamlined service. We are thrilled to have helped push the boundaries of what it means to be a flexible workforce in the twenty-first century.
