Discover how we partnered with Cartoon Network to create a website and brand activation that put Powerpuff fans in control.

To celebrate the reboot of the popular cartoon The Powerpuff Girls, Cartoon Network launched Powerpuff Yourself, a site that let fans create avatars in the style of the show’s eponymous characters. More recently Cartoon Network sought out PRPL to build Powerpuff Yourself 2.0 with a sleek new interface.

Finding Your Powfactor

Quiz Yourself

Powerpuff Yourself 2.0 needed to offer more diversity and include a quiz that revealed a user’s Powfactor, or the special quality that helps them impact the world.

With these new features in mind, our strategy team conducted rounds of testing to discover how to update the platform and improve the user experience.

Creating an Avatar

We added nearly 80 new choices for hair style and color, eye shape, and clothes, as well as items like pants, shoes, and accessories — from wheel chairs to cat shirts. With unbundled props and a handy “undo” button, we allowed for even more customization.

Powfactor

After creating their avatar, fans could then discover their Powfactor. We developed a comprehensive quiz algorithm that generates 30 different results and corresponding backgrounds. A strategy was developed to address all possible interactions, including ties.

Sharing on Social

Powerpuff Yourself 2.0 needed to offer more diversity and include a quiz that revealed a user’s Powfactor, or the special quality that helps them impact the world.

26 Language Support

Translation capabilities were added for 26 different languages across 196 countries in a very short timeline. We created a smart translation layer that allows regions to translate images as well as text.

Powerpuff Pop-up Shop

The app was showcased at a pop-up shop in NYC, along with a separate custom printing application that allowed fans to create their avatar and print it on a t-shirt or tote from one simple interface. The system can be scaled to different devices and brands in the future.

The three-day event was a hit, with over 1000 kiosk orders and lines out the door for the entirety of the showcase.

The Takeaway

Powerpuff Yourself 2.0 was received favorable the world over, and we were thanked for including fans of various backgrounds, languages, and capabilities. With a devoted team backed by project management superpowers, we were honored to put our own spin on a childhood favorite and share our Powfactor with the world.
