5 Reasons Why the Office Phone is Dead

If you were to call our office phone right now, you’d reach our voicemail, set up to steer you in another direction. Any other direction. In fact, we’re not sure why we’ve entertained that thing for as long as we have, or why anyone in this industry would need a landline. So we’re moving on from that desk-ridden deadbeat, with five good reasons why we won’t miss it.

  1. Curb solicitors and recruiters. Congrats, salespeople and match-makers! You’re our highest-volume callers. We’ll bet if you have a phone number to reach us, you at least have an email address, too. Take this as an encouraging plead to get a little more creative with your time-sucking tactics, or if you don’t want to talk to us ever again, we completely understand.
  2. More immediate, direct access for clients. No, we aren’t ignoring clients—they’ll benefit most from this crusade! As it is, not many call our office phone unannounced to get in touch, so for urgent concerns, what better way than to give them a straight stream right to their point of contact? And before you say what you're thinking...read on.
  3. Landlines are a thing of the past. All of our employees have mobile phones, and they aren’t afraid to use ‘em. Ten years ago, using your personal cell for work was a peril to the minutes cap on your phone bill. Today, there’s enough Wifi and unlimited everything to fill a Sweet Tomatoes. Oh, but you wouldn’t want to give away your personal number? Two words: Google Voice.
  4. It shouldn’t be someone’s primary job here. As in any business, there’s lots to do around the office, and we’re not fans of wasting time. Looking high and low for someone to speak to an avid software-pusher, and even worse, taking a message, is just that. It’s no wonder he’s always “out to lunch” or she’s perpetually “in a meeting.” Message received.
  5. We’re a digital agency. Email, social media, our delightful contact form—they’re all quicker, trackable, and less invasive for both parties involved. Of course, we love that personal touch of a human-to-human conversation, so let’s do it over lunch, instead. Delicious and judicious!

Our clients love the idea of having a direct line to their PRPL team right in their pockets, and we’re all looking forward to trimming the operational fat for more efficient communication. It’s a win-win. Now for a moment of silence—which we can finally have now that our ears have stopped ringing.
